Snafzg over at The Greenskin poses a simple question: Why do people feel the need to bash games they aren’t even playing? A question frequently asked here at the Vault as well as on other fan sites. If you've ever asked this question yourself, you might want to read his commentary:
"Why do people feel the need to bash games they aren’t even playing?
It’s one thing to share your negative opinions when intelligently comparing and contrasting various MMORPGs, but to go out of your way to bash a game or the people playing it simply because you don’t like it and don’t want anyone else to like it either seems immature to me.
I’m talking about the people who have such a hate on for Darkfall, proclaiming failure, doom, and gloom when the thing isn’t even out yet (and hey, let’s make fun of that aspect too). I’m talking about the ex-WoW players who can’t fathom why anyone would be so pathetic and/or retarded to keep playing WoW. I’m talking about the current WoW players who brand people that don’t enjoy WoW as morons who just don’t get it. I’m talking about people who are constantly sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for the wave of negativity to follow the release of a new game that didn’t meet everyone’s expectations just so they could jump up and shout, “See? I told you so!”
I’m basically talking about any fan of Game A who thinks a fan of Game B is wasting his time and killing brain cells.
No-one can stop you from thinking this way or travel back in time to right whatever wrong that made you a righteous (expletive deleted), but why do you find it necessary to spew your negativity all over the Internet? Yeah, yeah. I know. Internet anonymity theory. But still, I think your life would be much easier to get on with if you would just let Gamer A enjoy his game, while you go off and enjoy Game B.
Different strokes for different folks and all that, eh? Don’t be a buzz-killing troll. It makes you look like there’s something crammed way up your e-hoohoo."
Damn he got a point!
